Environmental and Health Engineering

Mission

The Environmental and Sanitary Engineering program of the University of Magdalena has as its mission to generate knowledge and train professionals with solid scientific and technical bases, with high levels of human quality, outstanding ethical conditions and ability to pose and provide solutions to the environmental problems of the Caribbean region, the country, and the world. All the above, through the evaluation, appropriation, design, and implementation of high technology that promotes sustainable development and based on a scientific, humanistic, and political field and supported by flexible, dynamic and comprehensive academic processes.

Vision

The Environmental and Health Engineering program will count on the high quality of its teaching, research, and outreach activities. The program will have a great impact on the region and the country because of the professional, technological and human leadership of its graduates and staff. Its governing body, teachers, and students will direct their efforts to the study and solution of the environmental problems and needs of the region and the country based on academic and administrative excellence, on the updating of their teams, and on the promotion of research and outreach. Its graduates and professors will be qualified, bilingual and respectful of people, democratic values, ??and nature.

History

In response to the commitment of the University of Magdalena to the environmental development of the Region, and within the framework of the Mission and Institutional Vision, the institution proposed to create the Environmental and Health Engineering Program on campus mode. As a result, the program was registered by the ICFES on April 2, 2001 under the code 121346280014700111100, later the Academic Board of the University created the program by agreement September 23, 2001.

Since 2010, a curricular reform process has been initiated through Academic Agreement 076 of 2010 in order to strengthen the flexibility and interdisciplinarity of the curriculum to guarantee greater integrality in the training process, as well as the need to adapt the Curriculum to trends in disciplinary training, institutional arrangements, and the demands of the regional and national environment.

Objetivos educativos del programa

 Profesional con capacidad de identificar, comprender y proponer alternativas para la gestión integral de problemas ambientales y sanitarios en el territorio, a partir de la aplicación de métodos y tecnologías, el diseño y operación de obras de saneamiento básico y la gestión de proyectos ambientales, que fomenten el desarrollo sostenible, teniendo en cuenta aspectos éticos, sociales, y económicos en los diferentes contextos.

RA1: Identifica problemas complejos mediante la aplicación de principios de ingeniería, ciencia, y matemáticas.

RA2: Aplica nuevo conocimiento utilizando estrategias de aprendizaje en el campo de la Ingeniería.

RA3: Aplica métodos y tecnologías que permiten el análisis y la interpretación de datos para la evaluación ambiental y emite conceptos técnicos ajustados a los distintos escenarios.

RA4: Planifica y construye obras de saneamiento básico que satisfacen necesidades específicas con la consideración de la salud pública, la seguridad y el bienestar, así como factores globales, cultural, social, ambiental, y factores económicos.

RA5: Reconoce la responsabilidad éticas y profesionales en la formulación y gestión de proyectos y programas ambientales, considerando principios, económicos, sociales y de sostenibilidad.

RA6: Se comunica eficazmente en los diferentes escenarios.
