Mission
The Medicine program of the University of Magdalena trains integral medical professionals, capable of participating in the solution of health problems, through actions of health promotion, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of the disease, with ethical values and social commitment (Educational Project, Medicine Program).
Vision
The Medicine program will be a leader in the Atlantic Coast, recognized for its academic quality, research development and impact on the community, through academic processes and modern structures that respond to National and International demands.
History
In January 1999, a group from the University of Magdalena visited the University of Cartagena as a first approach to conduct a background study to analyze in which way and which of the programs required by the University of Magdalena that institution could support. The group achieved the signing of the Framework Agreement for the Development of New Programs with the University of Cartagena. Afterward, officials of the University of Cartagena visited our institution to carry out a detailed evaluation of the basic infrastructure of the University of Magdalena creating the viability of the Medicine Program offered by the University of Magdalena.
Subsequently, the university presented an agreement for the creation of the Faculty of Health Sciences and a Forum Workshop to determine the profile of the graduate of the Faculty, "Towards the Training of a Health Professional", with the attendance of representatives of ICFES, ACOFAEN, FOC, UNICARTAGENA and a large group of outstanding professionals from the Caribbean Coast. The forum memories expressed the support and strengthening of the creation of the Faculty of Health Sciences with the Medicine, Nursing and Dentistry programs.
The training of teachers and the advice in the assembly of the Medicine Program was made by signing a Cooperation Agreement with the University of Antioquia.
On September 14, 1999, the Academic Board through Agreement No. 012 (Annex 5) authorized the creation of a professional training program in Medicine attached to the Faculty of Health Sciences and was created through Agreement 017 of October 29, 1999, by the Academic Board.
Afterward, the institution approved the project for curricular development and the organization of the curriculum of the Medicine program through Academic Agreement 028 of 2002 (Annex 7), with the emphasis on family health in its integral, sociocultural, environmental, and individual context. Due to the permanent construction and self-evaluation process of the Medicine program, a modification in the curriculum was necessary and the institution approved a transition period of the curriculum through Academic Agreement 016 of 4 August 2003.
Within the framework of the Evaluation of the Comprehensive Academic Reform carried out in the second period of 2003, the university established changes in the curricular structure for the better functioning of the Program. As a result, the Academic Board approved the project for the improvement of curricular development and organization of the curriculum of the Medicine Program through Academic Agreement 030 September 27, 2004.
On May 2, 2007, the Ministry of National Education granted the Registry qualified for the medicine program by resolution 2038 for 7 years.
In 2010, the university implemented the axis of formative research in the curriculum of the Medicine Program through Academic Agreement 028 of April 26, 2010. This axis enables the student to understand research as a process of diverse knowledge construction from a broad perspective that contemplates the multiple of investigation and forms of creation that interact before a question or a problem.
On January 28, 2016, the Ministry of National Education granted the renewal of the Registry qualified for the medicine program by resolution 01245 for 7 years.

Accreditation
Currently, the Medicine program is in the process of self-assessment with the different levels of the program: students, teachers, graduates, administrators and employers. As well as in the construction of the initial conditions document to be filed with the CNA in June, which is simultaneously enriching the accreditation document.

Objetivos Objetivo General
Formar un médico con compromiso ético y sentido social, capaz de desempeñarse en todos los campos de la salud en sus diferentes niveles de complejidad y de acuerdo a las exigencias de su entorno, con enfoque familiar, impulsando estilos de vida saludables y acciones de prevención de la enfermedad.
Objetivos Específicos:
- Formar un médico idóneo con principios y valores que enmarquen su actuar, dentro de una cultura de convivencia pacífica, tolerancia y respeto a la vida.
- Fortalecer la vinculación del programa con la comunidad en general mediante actividades de proyección social.
- Desarrollar programas y estrategias tendientes a fomentar la promoción de la salud y prevención de la enfermedad.
- Formar un profesional con espíritu investigativo que permita su desarrollo y el del entorno social, en todos los campos de la salud, con una actividad investigativa reconocida por la comunidad académica nacional e internacional.
- Formar un médico líder dentro de la comunidad, que fomente la salud y el desarrollo integral de la familia.
